A Fontainebleau
Atout
No domicile to keep was hers,
from honest work the color bloomed.
A beauty Anna viewed replete
and for a franc she sat the seat
across where painter’s easel loomed…
the girl whose look infers.
The studio was dimly lit
adjoining onto sculptor’s den,
where Rosa Bonheur stayed aloof,
her subjects all had fur and hoof,
and there the artists lived in sin,
a bond no man could split.
The painting of the peasant girl
was Anna’s gift expressing love
and hung beside their poster bed,
a mood it set with nothing said,
anointing them from high above…
a pure aesthetic pearl.
